COACH’S CORNER
Tactical Tips: Play smarter, not harder.

If you’ve played pickleball for a while, you may have noticed something: your game improves quickly at first, then levels off. Many players hit this plateau and wonder if it’s their paddle, their footwork, or their swing. But often, the real key to breaking through isn’t about technique at all—it’s about tactics.

Tactical shifts are minor adjustments in the way you think about the game. They help you make smarter choices on the court so you can win more rallies, reduce errors, and keep the fun going longer. Over the following seven issues of this newsletter, we’ll share one tactical tip at a time—easy-to-apply strategies that don’t require you to overhaul your strokes or buy new equipment.

Here’s a preview of what’s ahead:

The 8 Tactical Tips

  1. Prioritize Smart Targets

  2. Communicate Like You Mean It

  3. Use the Third Shot to Reset, Not Rush

  4. Attack the Gaps, Not the Glory

  5. Expect the Unexpected

  6. Dink with Purpose

  7. Know When to Reset

  8. Win the Net Battle

None of these shifts require fancy spins, lightning speed, or new gear. They’re about awareness and smarter decision-making—tools that every player, especially seniors, can use to improve consistency and enjoy the game even more.

Your Invitation

Starting in this issue, we’ll dive deeper into each tactical tip, one at a time. You’ll get stories, examples, and practical advice you can use immediately in your next match.

So here’s your challenge: commit to trying just one new tactic every other week. By the end of this series, you’ll have eight powerful tools to make you a smarter, tougher player on the court. Your first Tactical Tip is right here!

STAYING ON THE COURT: HOW TO PROTECT AGAINST PICKLEBALL INJURIES WITH VKTRY INSOLES

Injury! A taboo among many playing groups—the mere mention sends shivers down the spines of pickleball players everywhere. Even a minor tweak can ruin a much-awaited outdoor session with your friends, let alone the dread of something that keeps you out for a season.

However, being on your feet for hours at a stretch is not necessarily conducive to injury-free playing. Sometimes the right gear can help you stay on the court more comfortably and for longer.

Fortunately, VKTRY carbon fiber insoles are designed to protect against common foot injuries like plantar fasciitis. Unlike ordinary insoles, VKTRY incorporates supportive carbon fiber plates, providing superior support and stability.

With VKTRY Insoles, explosive movements to the kitchen line can be executed with confidence, knowing your feet are secure and supported. That ace of mind allows you to play with more support and with less fear about potential injuries.

If you'd like to feel fresher on the court, you can try VKTRY Insoles risk-free for 90 days with their money-back guarantee. Don't forget that through Palm Beach County Pickleball News, you can save 20% as well. THE $30 PADDLE THAT BEAT A $280 PRO MODEL
What happens when you strip away the logos and the hype? Sometimes the underdog wins.

I’ve always wondered how much of pickleball equipment is about performance—and how much is about branding. So, when I saw a $30 Alibaba clone of the Joola Perseus Pro IV (a paddle that costs $280 in stores), I couldn’t resist. I ordered one and set up a little experiment with some friends. What if the paddle you thought was top-tier turned out to be a $30 knockoff? Find out what happened when I put one to the test. Read more here.

BEGINNER’S CORNER

Don’t let another third-shot drop crash into the net. Discover the exact paddle-angle trick (10–15° tilt!) that guarantees loft, the knee-bend hack pros use for flawless arcs, and the “frisbee swing” that lands unattackable drops 90% of the time—all revealed in 60 seconds. Click now to master the third-shot drop. Bonus: Limited-time partner drill to fast-track mastery!

TRAIN SMARTER WITH THE RALLIE PICKLEBALL MACHINE

I had the chance to try the Rallie Pickleball Machine at the World Pickleball Convention—and I was seriously impressed. It’s portable, powerful, and precise. Whether you’re drilling solo or leveling up your club’s training sessions, Rallie delivers consistency you can’t get anywhere else. Controlled by an easy-to-use mobile app and trusted by top clubs, it’s hands-down one of the best training tools I’ve seen.
